Getting Started
with LansPilot
From download to your first multi-camera recording — a step-by-step guide covering installation, phone connection, and your first export.
Step 0
System Requirements
Check these before downloading. No internet is required after installation.
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit
- 8 GB RAM minimum — 16 GB recommended for AI captions
- USB 3.0 port (required for USB camera mode)
- 2 GB free disk space (plus ~500 MB per Whisper model)
- Android 10 or newer (API level 29+)
- Rear camera access (Camera2 API required)
- Same Wi-Fi network as your PC — or USB cable
- Up to 4 phones simultaneously — scales with your PC
No internet connection is required after installation. All AI transcription runs on-device using Whisper — no audio leaves your machine.
Step 1
Installing LansPilot on Windows
The installer handles all dependencies automatically. The full process takes about 3 minutes.
Download the installer
Go to the Downloads page and download LansPilot-Setup.exe. The file is approximately 80 MB.
Handle the SmartScreen warning
Run the installer. Windows may show a SmartScreen dialog ("Windows protected your PC"). This appears because LansPilot is unsigned during beta.
Click More info, then Run anyway to proceed. The application is safe — signing certificates are issued before the public launch.
The installer wizard — what it installs
The setup wizard will check for required runtimes and offer optional components:
- Visual C++ 2022 Runtime — required. Auto-installs if missing.
- .NET 10 Desktop Runtime — required for the audio engine. Auto-installs if missing.
- FFmpeg — required for video export. Downloaded from gyan.dev (free, open source). Recommended: accept.
- Zadig USB driver tool — optional. Only needed if you plan to connect phones via USB cable.
Choose installation directory
The default is C:\Program Files\LansPilot. Change it if needed, then click Install.
Launch LansPilot
Once the installer completes, a shortcut is created on your Desktop and in the Start Menu. Double-click LansPilot to launch.
Step 2
Installing the Android App
LansPilot for Android is distributed as an APK during beta — it is not yet on the Play Store.
Download the APK
Download LansPilot.apk from the Downloads page directly on your phone browser, or transfer the file from your PC via USB or a messaging app.
Allow installation from unknown sources
On your Android phone: Settings → Security → Install unknown apps. Enable it for your browser (e.g. Chrome) or Files app — whichever you used to download.
You can re-disable "Install unknown apps" after installation for safety.
Install the APK
Open your Downloads folder or Files app, tap LansPilot.apk, and tap Install. Android will verify and install the app in a few seconds.
Grant permissions
Open LansPilot on your phone. When prompted, grant Camera and Microphone permissions. These are required for the app to stream video and audio to your PC.
Step 3
Connecting Your Phone(s)
LansPilot supports two connection methods. Wi-Fi is easier to set up; USB is more stable for long recordings.
- 1Connect both your PC and your phone to the same Wi-Fi network.
- 2Open LansPilot on your PC.
- 3Open LansPilot on your phone. The app displays a QR code or a 4-digit PIN.
- 4On PC: click "Connect Device." Your phone appears automatically in the device list within a few seconds.
- 5Click "Connect" on PC — the phone camera preview appears.
- 6Repeat for your second phone if you are using two cameras.
- 1Enable Developer Options: Settings → About Phone → tap Build Number 7 times.
- 2Enable USB Debugging: Settings → Developer Options → USB Debugging (toggle on).
- 3Connect your phone to the PC with a USB cable.
- 4On PC: LansPilot detects the device automatically via ADB — no action needed.
- 5On your phone: tap "Allow" on the "Allow USB Debugging?" dialog. Check "Always allow from this computer" to avoid repeating this.
- 6The camera feed appears on PC within a few seconds.
Phone not detected? Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and that Windows Firewall is not blocking LansPilot (try disabling it temporarily to test). For USB: if the phone does not appear, reinstall ADB drivers using the Zadig tool that was included in the installer.
Step 4
Your First Recording
With at least one phone connected, you are ready to record.
Start recording
Click the red REC button in the top toolbar, or press Space. The recording timer starts immediately. All connected cameras begin recording simultaneously.
Switch camera angles
Press 1 or 2 on your keyboard to cut between camera 1 and camera 2 live. You can also click the preview thumbnails on the left side panel. Switch markers are saved automatically in the timeline for editing.
Live AI captions
Captions appear automatically in the caption bar beneath the main preview. Select the language from the dropdown — Hebrew, English, or let the system detect automatically. Captions are also saved as a subtitle track in the recording.
Stop recording
Click STOP or press Space again. LansPilot finalizes all camera files and saves them automatically to Documents\LansPilot\Recordings on your PC. A session summary appears with clip lengths and detected speech.
Step 5
Exporting to Your Editor
LansPilot exports a fully synced, properly-offset project file so your NLE sees the edit you made during capture.
Open the Gallery
Click the Gallery tab in the left sidebar. Your recording sessions appear as cards. Click a session to open it.
Click Export — choose your format
Click the Export button and choose an output format:
- FCPXML — for DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro. Includes sync markers and the cut timeline.
- EDL — for Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer.
- MP4 — a single merged file with burned captions. Good for quick sharing.
Import into DaVinci Resolve
In DaVinci Resolve: File → Import → Timeline and select the .fcpxml file. All clips will appear on the timeline at the correct positions with your camera cuts already applied.
The export file includes clean audio, caption data, and the cut markers you made during recording. Your edit in LansPilot translates directly to the timeline in your NLE — no manual syncing needed.
Optional
Using the Teleprompter
LansPilot includes a built-in teleprompter that syncs with your speech speed and can display on your phone screen simultaneously.
Open Teleprompter
Click the Teleprompter button in the top toolbar. A script panel opens to the right of the preview.
Enter your script
Paste or type your script into the text area. You can format it with line breaks for natural pauses. Markdown headings (# Title) are rendered larger.
Start scrolling
Click Start. The text begins scrolling. LansPilot adjusts the scroll speed to follow your speech — if you pause, the text pauses.
Phone display
Your connected phone can display the teleprompter text simultaneously, so you can read while looking toward the camera. Toggle this in the Teleprompter settings.
Help
Troubleshooting
Common issues and how to resolve them.
SmartScreen blocks the installer
Click "More info" in the SmartScreen dialog, then click "Run anyway." The app is safe — code signing is pending until the public release.
Phone camera shows a black screen on PC
Force-close and reopen LansPilot on your phone. Check that Camera and Microphone permissions are granted in Android Settings → Apps → LansPilot → Permissions.
No audio in the recording
Open LansPilot Settings → Audio Engine and verify the correct input device is selected. If you are using an ASIO interface, ensure the ASIO driver is installed and the device is not claimed by another application.
High latency or delay in the preview
Wi-Fi latency varies depending on your router. Switch to a USB connection for consistently sub-50 ms latency. Also check that no other devices are saturating the network.
Captions are not working
Check that the microphone is allowed in Windows Settings → Privacy → Microphone, and that LansPilot is listed with access enabled. Also verify a Whisper model has been downloaded in LansPilot Settings → AI / Captions.
Export fails or produces no file
FFmpeg must have been installed during setup. To verify: open LansPilot Settings → Export → and check the FFmpeg path. If it is empty or invalid, re-run the installer and accept the FFmpeg component.
Phone not showing up in device list (USB)
Confirm USB Debugging is enabled on the phone (see Step 3 — USB Connection above). If the phone still does not appear, run Zadig (installed with LansPilot) and reinstall the ADB interface driver for your device.
Recording stops unexpectedly after a few minutes
Check your phone battery and ensure it is not in Battery Saver mode, which can terminate background camera sessions. Connect the phone to a charger during long recordings.
